This position oversees a variety of functions covering food service, maintenance, mailroom, warehouse, quartermaster, prisoner store operations, accounting, budget, and purchasing. The incumbent provides overall direction in the above areas to the benefit of staff and prisoners. Functions as the liaison between the facility, Jackson Business Office, Central Office of MDOC, as well as other state departments and agencies, including various components of DTMB and Treasury. Directs efforts to optimize use of appropriations and staff efficiency.

Requirements

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field.
Experience
Four years of professional experience involving the application of the principles of finance or in two or more of the following areas of administrative management: human resources, information technology, purchasing, organizational analysis, or property management, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the senior, lead worker, or specialist (12) level.

Qualifications

Education typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience equivalent to a Food Services Supervisor 11, Physical Plant Supervisor 12, or Industries Supervisor 13; or, two years equivalent to a Fire Safety Supervisor 12, Food Service Supervisor 12, Physical Plant Supervisor 13, or Industries Supervisor 14 may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
Certain positions may be assigned subclass codes and individuals appointed must possess the required specialized experience.
