Requirements

As an Administration and Management Trainee, you will support the SCI Mercer Business Office by assisting in the preparation, review, and analysis of fiscal data. You will perform general accounting functions and monitor facility budgets to ensure full compliance with federal and state laws, as well as Department of Corrections regulations. Working alongside senior fiscal staff, you will help develop financial reports for the monthly Inmate General Welfare Fund (IGWF) reporting package. Your daily responsibilities will include reconciling the IGWF checking account, posting journal entries, and analyzing various fiscal reports. You will be tasked with summarizing daily transactions to facilitate accurate monthly record-keeping. Additionally, you will address inmate concerns regarding their accounts by researching grievances, conducting interviews, and attending meetings to help develop and implement effective resolutions. Through these duties, you will maintain the financial integrity of the facility while ensuring administrative transparency.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 2 days.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mercer. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree, including 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.


Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
