recruiting for full-time Accounting Technician 3

in Juneau, Alaska

This position is open to Alaska Residents Only.


What You Will Be Doing: This position is in Juneau, Alaska and provides financial support to the department such as researching, reviewing and processing Reimbursable Service Agreement (RSA) and accounts payable financial documents.

You will provide technical support to our Division by processing encumbrance requests, Department cash receipts deposits, and journal entries.

You will perform tasks independently, prioritize work assignments, and will be the main contact for RSA.

  • Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques, including accounts receivable, account payable, and disbursing officer’s accountability.

  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cue, and responds appropriately.
  • Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.

Requirements

Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.

Substitutions:

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
