Michigan Department of Treasury seeks a skilled and knowledgeable specialist to serve as the department’s technical expert for accounting and tax systems, including SAP, GenTax, and the Statewide Integrated Governmental Management System (SIGMA).

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the department’s subject matter expert for SAP and GenTax, requiring deep technical and functional system knowledge.

• Ensure proper accounting methods and procedures are consistently applied across the department. • Establish and maintain guidelines for processing financial transactions within SIGMA.

• Support compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). • Troubleshoot and resolve system interface issues and assist with year-end closing processes.

• Contribute to the design and implementation of new taxes, system enhancements, and reporting solutions.

• Collaborate closely with internal partners, including the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB).

• Lead and manage complex projects related to accounting system development, upgrades, and process improvements. • Coordinate activities across multiple program areas and state agencies.

• Conduct special projects focused on researching, developing, and implementing new or enhanced accounting systems and processes.

• Ensure the integrity and reliability of financial processes through policy development and system oversight.

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

ExperienceFour years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant, Auditor, or Assistant Auditor General including two years equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11 or one year equivalent to an Accountant 12, Auditor 12, or Assistant Auditor General 12.Note: A position is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor's degree.

Qualifying ‘professional experience’ is only taken into consideration post-bachelor’s degree.


Qualifications

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.

OR

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position prior to being appointed to the position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

Hybrid Remote Work. This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For remote work performance, this position requires a designated, secure, and appropriate workspace with reliable internet access (minimum 25 Mbps download, 5 Mbps upload). Remote work arrangements are subject to management approval and may be adjusted or discontinued at any time.

E-Verify.
