Job Description

Summary

This internship involves helping with financial tasks in a transportation department, such as tracking project costs, reviewing contracts, processing invoices, and ensuring everything follows rules for government funding.

It's a hands-on role where you'll learn about accounting systems and work with teams to manage budgets for projects.

Full Job Description

The candidate will be exposed to several project management cost accounting systems.

They will also work with project ledgers, cost centers, object codes, and the interconnected accounting systems used to capture project activity.

Candidate will perform reconciliations, compliance auditing and identifying allowable and eligible costs as well as calculating State, Local, and Federal share of costs of multi-party funded projects.

The candidate will gain exposure to the electronic organization and retrieval of accounting records and the internal controls within the electronic storage application.

  1. Consultant coordination support in the Project Management Bureau
  2. Aid the consultant coordination section in administering contracts
  3. Review contracts for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with federal audit regulations
  4. Process invoices daily
  5. Compile consultant cost and forecasting future budgets
  6. Organize and indexing contract records for permanent storage

Essential functions: Candidate must be able to operate a personal computer, have moderate level of familiarity with Excel, and be able to navigate through various computer systems.

They must also have effective oral and written communication skills and work well with co-workers. The candidate must also meet the qualifications listed below.

Qualifications: Accounting or Finance majors who have completed Financial Accounting (284) and are currently enrolled in, or have completed Managerial Accounting (285)

Duration: Full time summer; May-August (40 hours/week); transition to part-time during fall semester (up to 20 hours/week) if student remains eligible and course of study remains relevant to the work
