Job Description

Summary

This job involves handling accounting, auditing, and financial analysis to ensure that state agencies and grant recipients follow federal, state, and professional rules.

You'll work independently under general supervision in a compliance and monitoring division of the health department.

It's a good fit for someone with a solid accounting background who enjoys detailed financial oversight and regulatory work.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in accounting
  • Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in professional accounting, statutory accounting, or auditing
  • Master's degree in accounting may substitute for the required experience
  • Certification or registration as a Public Accountant in West Virginia may substitute for the training and required experience
  • Additional one year of experience in accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, or finance may substitute for required accounting semester hours (1 year per 30 semester hours)
  • Ability to apply internal procedures for compliance with federal, state, and professional regulations

Full Job Description


Under general supervision, independently performs full-performance level professional duties in general accounting, auditing, and financial analysis for the Division of Compliance and Monitoring within the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Office of Internal Control and Policy Development. Applies internal procedures to ensure that the OSA and its recipients of grant awards are complying with applicable federal, state, and professional rules, regulations, and standards. Other duties as required.

Qualifications


Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.

AND

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in professional accounting, statutory accounting or auditing work.

OR

Substitutions: (1) Master's degree in accounting may substitute for the required experience. (2) Certification or registration as a Public Accountant in West Virginia may be substituted for the training and required experience.



Additional Information


An additional one (1) year of experience in accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, and/or finance may substitute for the required accounting semester hours at the rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty semester hours.
