Summary

To qualify for a Writer-Editor, your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.

To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.

Creditable specialized experience includes: Utilizes a high level of writing and editing expertise to apply extensive analysis and research findings to detailed project test and evaluation results in order to determine acceptability of training projects, equipment, and AV systems for specified programs under contract specifications.

Writes and edits for a variety of audiences to ensure that process materials are clear and promote thorough understanding among intended audiences.

Uses functions such as SharePoint, Adobe Pro, PowerPoint, and large file transfer programs, and operates a personal computer or computer terminal using a standard typewriter style keyboard with additional function keys to produce work and operate related equipment such as laptops, tablets, Wifi hotspots and printers.

Advises on alternate options for printing training and other materials, including the use of color, choice of binding to facilitate the utility of material, choice of paper, use of tabs, and the effects of costs, quality and effectiveness of presentation of the various alternatives.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • Serves as the staff advisor for DLA Distribution J4 on written and editorial policy matters.
  • Creates and edits a variety of Storage and Distribution process manuals and other material for use by individuals within the organization as well as for release outside of the activity.
  • Provides interpretations of Agency writing policy and advises on matters such as content, presentation, interpretation and explanation of information to a variety of audiences.
  • Prepares material for publication to include: determining proper media, compiling and organizing draft material, developing a plan for presentation, properly prescribing forms, and providing for proper references.
  • Prepares material for publication to include: all other requirements related to the analysis and presentation of information gathered.
  • Creates draft publications and forms by utilizing extensive knowledge of DLA Distribution processes and historical information related to previous iterations of material in order to avoid contradictions.
  • Gathers, develops, and checks the accuracy of information through detailed research and analysis, and by interviewing subject-matter experts, program officials and policymakers relative to the topics discussed.
  • Advises DLA Distribution Business Process Analysts (BPA), subject matter experts and Enterprise wide program/project managers concerning the various alternatives in printing training and other materials.
  • Provides cost/benefit analysis to project managers on the various printing training alternatives, and projects yearly printing budget requirements.
