Summary

This role involves leading a small team of 3-10 carpenters and laborers on hands-on construction and repair tasks, while also performing the same work yourself, such as fixing furniture, buildings, and wooden structures.

You'll assign jobs, ensure safety, manage supplies, and check that everything meets standards.

Full Job Description

Definition of a Working Foreman:

Supervises and works with a small group (normally ranging from 3-10) of journeyman craftsmen, workers at a lower skill level and/or laborers. Makes work assignments, enforces safety regulations, maintains discipline, orders supplies and equipment, and reviews work of the crew assigned to him during progress and upon completion for compliance with instructions and conformance with accepted trade practices. The working foreman of journeyman must be skilled in the trade being supervised. In all cases performs the same type of work as individuals supervised. The title is derived either from the occupation supervised, e.g., Working Foreman Carpenter, Working Foreman Laborer, or from the operation supervised where different occupations are supervised and none predominates, e.g., Incinerator Working Foreman.

Requirements

Repairs desks, tables, chairs, cabinets and other office furniture; makes and repairs boxes, horses, cases, signboards, barricades, fences, sash and window frames, and other wooden equipment. Repairs buildings, doors, windows, floors. Makes repairs to swimming pools. Does some concrete work and glazing. Does repair work on wooden bridges and drain boxes. Builds and does repair work on truck bodies. When assigned, works underground in installing and repairing sewer gates.

Qualifications

2 years of experienced required in related work. Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
