This position headquarters is negotiable.


Under supervision of the Breastfeeding Coordinator and with the internal title of "Lactation Consultant" provides lactation management services to clients of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in the Lowcountry area region. Includes education, outreach and provides Level 3 high risk lactation services as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

Provides and documents one-on-one breastfeeding education, counseling and follow-up to high risk Level 3 WIC participants referred by the Breastfeeding Coordinator. May provide Level 2 services as needed.

Keep accurate records of all contacts made with WIC mothers. Maintain strict confidentially of client information.

Schedules, provides and documents group breastfeeding education and support. Uses approved visual aides and educational materials.

Assists with training new staff. Assists with in-services for staff and the community.

Attends staff meetings, submit South Carolina Enterprise Information System (SCEIS), Personal Cost Accounting System (PCAS), travel, and other monthly reports in a timely manner.

Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant human services or social services experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: Must have successfully completed the WIC Breastfeeding Counselor Training and have successfully breastfed at least one child for a minimum of six months.

A minimum of 1 year of breastfeeding counseling experience required. Must be a currently licensed International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Must be available to WIC participants outside the usual working hours (8:00am to 5:00pm) A valid driver's license is required and reliable transportation is desirable.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications, subject to approval by the DPH Chief Human Resources Officer, or their delegate.

Qualifications

Current IBCLC Certification. Must be available to WIC participants outside the usual working hours (8:00am to5:00pm) A valid driver's license is required and reliable transportation is desirable.

Maintains IBCLC credential and breastfeeding knowledge and skills through continuing education and IBCLC recertification.
