Our team is excited to announce a new opening for a full-time
Resident Transportation Driver (Truck Driver 1) in historic Port Orchard, Washington!
In this role, you will provide quality care and customer service to resident Veterans of the Transitional Housing Program by transporting them to and from their medical appointments, legal appointments, and/or social services appointments. Make a difference in Veterans' lives and apply today!
Please note: This is a project role with an expected end date of February 28th, 2028 with
the possibility for a project extension. The expected shift for this position is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position is
not eligible for telework.
*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.
Homes 24/7 facility differential: Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients, and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027.

Resident Transportation Driver for the Transitional Housing Program in Port Orchard, you will ensure Veteran residents are safely transported to their respective appointments, as well as assist with moving medical equipment and personal items as necessary as Veterans move into and out of the the Transitional Housing Program building.

Requirements
Some of what you'll do:
- Operate vehicles safely within applicable laws, safety requirements, and operational guidelines.
- Transport clients to scheduled medical, dental, and mental health appointments at the Veterans Affairs medical facilities.
- Assist with transportation to other appointments such as housing appointments.
- Assist clients to and from vehicles and staying with clients at destination until someone receives them.
- Notify the client's assigned Case Manager is any issues arise with a client.
- Run errands and deliver paperwork and equipment as required.
- Shop for residential items, food, and related items.
- Purchase prepared meals and snacks as needed during medical/court or other appointments.
- Log mileage daily and account for all clients on outgoing and return trips.
- Assist with education and review of bed bugs and other hygiene concerns for incoming clients and their possessions.
- Assist clients after minor surgery for mobility care or by carrying items.

Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Washington State driver's license.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be proficient in the English language.
Preferred/Desired:- Experience guiding people in a clean and sober housing center atmosphere.
- At least one (1) year of professional experience working in a residential setting with homeless individuals.
Special Requirements:- Must be able to pass criminal background check, prior to hire and every 2 years, in accordance with DVA Policy 615.000 Criminal History Background Checks.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
- Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
- Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
