Full Job Description
Water Operations Supervisor positions plan, assign, instruct, train, evaluate, and supervise the work plant operators at a City of San Diego potable water treatment plant; ensure plant operates according to state and federal regulations; optimize plant processes for water quality and minimized cost; respond to plant disruptions in a timely and efficient manner; ensure safety measures are followed and are up to date; represent the plant on construction projects; maintain plant documentation; review and prepare reports and procedures; review construction plans and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
- Eligible benefited employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
- Water Operations Supervisor employees may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, and may also be on standby to respond to water treatment plant emergencies for which they may receive 5% addition pay.
Requirements
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
CERTIFICATION: You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Grade IV Water Treatment Operator's Certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
- Letter issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board stating that you have successfully passed the examination for a Grade IV Water Treatment Operator's Certification.
- Official notification from the California State Water Resources Control Board confirming you have filed to take the examination for a Grade IV Water Treatment Operator’s Certification.
NOTE:
- For option Number 3, applicants may apply and continue through the screening process with proof they have filed to take the examination; however, a valid Grade IV Water Treatment Operator’s Certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board is required at the time of hire.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
- Lead/Supervisory experience.
- Proficient in using computer software, including Word, PDF, and Excel.

Qualifications

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Employment offers are conditional pending the results of all screening processes applicable to this position, which may include the following: confirmation of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States; completion of a pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include drug and alcohol testing); reference checks; and fingerprinting.
Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a conviction record report.
