Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves helping to run a volunteer program at a VA medical center in Bonham, Texas, by supporting the planning, coordination, and management of volunteer activities and events for veterans.
It includes tasks like organizing special events, handling program budgets, and building relationships with community groups.
A good fit would be someone with experience in administrative support, event planning, or volunteer coordination who enjoys working with people and has strong customer service skills.
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has adopted the Center for Development and Civic Engagement/Voluntary Service Modernization Initiative which is a new model of organizing and consolidating essential voluntary functions and services to the Medical Center.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/23/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: supports Service Chief in planning, operation, and evaluating an active Voluntary Service Program, assists in all aspects of development, coordination, and management of voluntary services, assists in program administration, allocating expenditures, responsible for assuring favorable interpersonal relations, plans and executes a variety of complex internal and external special events, assist management in planning, developing, and implementing various programs, maintains effective relationships with Veterans organizations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Physical Requirements: : "The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work.

Major Duties:
Program Administrative Support Provide support to the facility's CDCE/Voluntary Service operations as the first point of contact for potential volunteers, patients, visitors, service organizations, corporate and community leaders, donors, and other internal and external stakeholders Communicates and coordinates on behalf of the CDCE/Voluntary Service Officer with services across the health care system.
Routinely engage the facility's Executive Leadership Team and administrative assistants in the Executive Office.
Facilitate meetings, correspondence, suspense or congressional responses, or any other administrative actions between the CDCE/Voluntary Service and leadership teams.
Serves as the primary timekeeper for all CDCE/Voluntary Service employees Program Clerical Support Reviews correspondence and communications regarding CDCE/Voluntary Service programs, policies, and procedures.
Collaborate with CDCE/Voluntary Service Officer to complete equipment inventory surveys and ensures proper documentation of equipment assigned to the CDCE/Voluntary Service department Donation and Fiscal Support Educates current and prospective donors on various methods.
Control point clerk and government purchase card holder ensuring all fiscal commitments and obligations are entered timely from appropriate fund control points, including GPFs, using accurate budget object codes and cost centers.
Response to all audits and requests for reports that confirm compliance with guidance relative to control point clerk and government purchase card holder duties.
Coordinates requests and purchases of office operating supplies, generates reports from automated information systems.
Completes other administrative tasks essential to the effective and efficient operation of the CDCE/Voluntary Service Office.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
