Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping create and manage visual materials like photos, graphics, and presentations for a defense agency, including supporting illustrators and photographers while updating internal web pages.

To qualify for a Visual Information Technician, your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.

To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.

Creditable specialized experience includes: Assisting in the preparation and development of visual media and presentation materials.

Provide assistance to illustrators and photographers in the development of visual media products.

Provide customers with guidance and assistance on design, art concepts, and color for maximum visual impact. Updating and maintaining an Intranet webpage.

Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The work requires manual dexterity and ability to distinguish slightest difference in the shades of colors.

Occasional physical activity is required including bending, stooping, or climbing to complete projects.

Employee lifts and/or carries moderately heavy equipment (less than 50 lbs.), camera bags, camera accessories, and other materials needed in capturing photographs. Major Duties:

  • Provides assistance to higher graded illustrators and photographers in the development of visual media products.
  • Assists in the preparation and development of visual media and presentation material in support of the organization’s programs.
  • Uses a computer and various types of visual media software to produce final products which meet the organization’s needs and mission.
  • Provides customers with guidance and assistance on design, art concepts, and color for maximum visual impact.
  • Provides photographic support by photographing award presentations, official portraits, buildings and grounds.
  • Updates and maintains the organization’s Intranet webpage.
