The position is located in the Veterans Integrated System Network (VISN 20) Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) located in Vancouver, WA and will be under the supervision of the Associate Director of Specialty Care.
The role will provide Endocrinology services to network facilities through a combination of virtual and potential in-person care as part of an interprofessional Endocrinology team.
The physician works as part of a virtual Endocrinology team to provide Endocrinology care to Veterans.
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Preferred Board Certified in Endocrinology.

Physical Requirements: Light carrying (under 15 pounds); Use of both fingers; Walking (6 hours); Standing (6 hours); Hearing (aid may be permitted). Environmental Factors: Working closely with others.
Major Duties:
The Physician (Endocrinologist) emphasizes evidence-based medicine, primary and secondary preventative medicine, the use of computerized medical record system and continuous quality improvement based on individualized provider data.
The physician will take part in continuing medical education as defined by state of licensure, and quality assurance activities.
The physician may sometimes need to work alone but can request assistance from other medical staff (including other telehealth Endocrinology staff, as well as staff in the Emergency Room or inpatient service at the nearest VA medical center when needed).
Special training will be provided to utilize CVT technology.
The duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following: Clinical Functions: The incumbent is an independent care provider, highly skilled in the management of patient's endocrine and diabetes care needs.
The incumbent will be delivering all forms of virtual care (e-consults, telephone visits, VA Video Connect, clinic-based video-telehealth).
The incumbent will work as a member of an expanded healthcare team that may include social work, dietician, clinical pharmacists, behavioral health clinician, and a care manager to oversee and coordinate medical care for a population of Veterans.
Engaged in direct patient contact or performs tasks defined by statute or recognized custom of medical practice within the bounds of state of licensure.
Evaluate, diagnose, provide treatment or consultative services to patients presenting with endocrine and metabolic diseases as defined by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Subspecialty Board of Endocrinology.
Perform initial histories and physical examination on outpatients using CVT technology and/or face-to-face visits. Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients.
Screen outpatients to determine the need for further care. Prescribe or recommend medications within defined scope of practice depending on model of care, telemedicine, or teleconsultation.
Order or refer for diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms as clinically indicated. Review needs for and order health promotion and disease prevention measures.
Initiate, respond to and expedite request for consultations, special tests, and studies.
Provide education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
Beyond clinical responsibilities, a physician in Endocrinology may be involved in the education and training of endocrine fellows, house staff, medical students, and non-physician clinical trainees.

Time will be provided outside of assigned shifts to complete this work.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 PST (Compressed Tour may be considered for highly qualified candidates).
