Job Description

Summary

This part-time, seasonal job as a Virtual School Assistant supports schools for military children in Aviano, Italy, by handling basic office tasks like creating documents, maintaining files, and other clerical work using computers.

It's ideal for someone with entry-level administrative experience or relevant education who is eligible for Department of Defense overseas positions, such as military family members or current federal employees.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in using personal computers for document creation, file maintenance, and clerical duties (equivalent to GS-04 level)
  • OR four years of education above high school from an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college, college, or university
  • OR a combination of education and experience totaling at least 100% of the requirements
  • 52 weeks of federal service at GS-04 or equivalent within the last 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement)

About the Position: This position is located in Aviano, Italy. Europe South District operates 16 schools in 4 countries across 2 time zones.

There are nearly 900,000 military connected children of all ages worldwide, of which more than 5,000 are enrolled in Europe South District schools and served by thousands of teachers and educational aides.

Salary is based on a full-time year round position. This position is Part-Time/Seasonal, 60 hours per pay period.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: use of personal computers to create documents; maintain files; and perform a variety of clerical duties.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement GS-05:Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

Additional Information: Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care.

Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.

Medical and dental care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical and dental facilities will vary by location.

Status candidates subject to the 5 year overseas rotation, who are currently overseas, must have enough time to meet the initial tour stated in the job announcement.

Waivers may not be granted to meet the 5 year limitation requirement.

Status applicants in their fourth year of an overseas assignment cannot be selected unless a waiver of the 5 year overseas service limitation requirement is approved.

Selectees recruited outside the U.S. will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire.

For positions in a foreign country, that country's laws or international agreements may have a direct impact on the ability of an employee's same sex domestic partner or spouse to accompany the employee and receive certain benefits.

The initial length of this overseas tour is 36 months. This position is not covered by a bargaining unit.

  • Provide support to virtual students with instructional needs when assigned teachers are not available.
  • Communicate with Virtual School teachers on student absences and acceleration.
  • Assist students regarding technical issues.
  • Utilize school platforms for daily attendance and supervision of students.
  • Compiles data reports on students in Virtual school.
  • Complete training provided by Virtual School Administration.
  • Execute testing process from beginning to end in absence of primary teacher.
  • Prepare a variety of letters, messages and memoranda.
