Full Job Description

This position is located at the Port Hueneme Veterinary Treatment Facility. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).

Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state). Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire.

Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.

Physical Requirement: Ability to lift 45 lbs and long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc.

Must have use of fingers; Both hand and both legs are required; Position requires exposure to intermittent excessive noise. The information provided on your resume should be clear and specific.

  • The Veterinary Medical Officer (VMO) serves as a recognized subject matter expert and leader in veterinary medical care, providing comprehensive and high-quality animal health services to support the animal health mission.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive veterinary medical programs, including preventive medicine, disease surveillance, and public health initiatives.
  • Provide direct supervision and mentorship to a team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff at large installations. Direct efforts to prevent and control zoonotic diseases.
  • Oversees all aspects of veterinary medical operations, including budget management, resource allocation, facility maintenance, and manpower management.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert, providing consultation and collaboration with other medical professionals, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
