Job Description

Summary

This job is for a veterinarian at a military base clinic who provides routine check-ups, treatments, surgeries, and preventive care for pets owned by service members and their families.

The role also involves managing health records, running diagnostic tests, and guiding support staff on animal care.

It's ideal for a licensed vet with hands-on experience in clinical practice who can handle physical demands like lifting animals and standing for long periods.

Key Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited school
  • Valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine in any US state
  • Ability to lift 45 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, restraining animals, kneeling, and reaching
  • Experience examining animals, treating diseases and injuries, and performing surgeries
  • Skills in collecting and analyzing body fluids/tissues for diagnostic testing and interpreting lab results

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).

Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state). Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire.

Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.

Physical Requirement: Ability to lift 45 pounds and long periods of standing, walking, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc.

  • Serves as the clinic Veterinarian performing wellness appointments on a population of privately-owned animals and advising owners on proper immunizations and disease prevention.
  • Examine animals, treat diseases and injuries, conduct surgeries. Perform administrative duties such as maintaining legal medical health records.
  • Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, and other body fluids for examination and diagnostic testing.
  • Performs and interprets laboratory findings. Issues health certificates.
  • Provides direction and oversight to Animal Health Assistants with regards to veterinary nursing skills, veterinary medical standards, and animal care.
