This job involves coordinating services and programs for veterans, military members, and their families in El Paso, while acting as a key contact for the city's Veterans Advisory Committee and building partnerships with military and community groups.
It also includes researching policies, tracking compliance, and managing special projects to support the city's defense and strategic goals.
A good fit would be someone with a background in public service or administration who is organized, good at building relationships, and passionate about helping veterans.
Provide direct coordination of services for veterans, service members, and military families. Involves: Intake, referral, and navigation of federal, state, and local veteran resources.
Support data-driven performance management by defining service metrics such as intake volume, referral completion, time to connection, and partner satisfaction.
Review public policy issues. Involves: Conducting research and analysis on local, state, and federal legislation and other intergovernmental issues focused on the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S.
Veterans Affairs Department, the Texas Military Preparedness Commission, the Texas Veterans Commission, Fort Bliss, and other stakeholders.
Support the development of Community Defense Strategy initiatives, dependencies, and decision points, with monthly status updates to leadership.
Involves: Work with technical consultants and lobbying firms to develop sensitive technical documents. Support the development of joint projects with Fort Bliss and the U.S.
Veterans Affairs Department. Conduct outreach and engagement with military installations, community partners, and veteran service organizations.
Track policy, regulatory, and compliance requirements that affect implementation, including privacy, records retention, and public meeting obligations when applicable.
Involves: Coordinating meeting logistics for strategy workgroups, including invitations, attendance lists, notes, and action item capture. Perform other related work as required.
Serve as the City staff liaison for the Veterans Advisory Committee (VAC). Involves: coordinating all VAC administrative and procedural functions; preparing and posting agendas; maintaining official records and minutes; coordinating meeting logistics; and ensuring compliance with the Texas Open.
Conduct special projects as directed. Involves: Planning, developing, and executing special projects involving cross-functional teams. Working closely with departments, advisory boards, and community groups to maintain efficient and effective progress towards mission-critical goals and objectives.
