This is a contracted appointment that may last up to two years in duration. Paid internships occur throughout the State of Michigan.

Our team is seeking a Veteran Intern, Trades Helper for our Bureau of Field Services Team. We are looking for someone who can embrace the challenges of meeting our goals and exceeding the standards!

This position provides assistance in the areas of facilities maintenance, repair, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, masonry, and carpentry on MDOT facilities. Provides assistance in inventory, organizing, and coordinating facilities maintenance area, functions, and operations. Job duties may require exposure to inclement weather and hazardous work environments. Adherence to all safety rules and requirements including wearing personal protective equipment as designated by the department. Other duties that are delegated by leadership as assigned. Position will require travel to statewide locations.

Requirements

Preferred Education and Experience:

No specific type or amount is required.

Preferred Experience:
One year of experience as a laborer assisting in the construction, electrical, or mechanical trades.

Additional Information

To be considered for this position you must:
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Be an honorably discharged veteran.
  • Attach a copy of your DD-214 to your application. This document is required in order to serve in the internship program.

MDOT does not participate in E-Verify and does not sponsor visa applications.

All newly hired state employees are required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug test and physical (if applicable) prior to their actual appointment. Criminal and driving records will also be checked if applicable.
