Job Description

Summary

This internship role supports the Michigan Department of Transportation's training programs for on-the-job trainees by reviewing reports, updating databases, and assisting contractors and trainees with rules and resources.

It involves daily interactions, data entry, and maintaining records to help veterans transition into civilian work.

A good fit would be an honorably discharged veteran with basic administrative experience who is organized, communicative, and eager to learn about transportation development.

Full Job Description

The Mackinac Bridge on a sunny day with blue skies and trees in the forefront with the MDOT logo and the MDOT webpage address.

This is a contracted appointment that may last up to two years in duration. Paid internships occur throughout the State of Michigan.

This position compiles and reviews monthly reports and training logs to determine OJT’s progress and update OJT database. Research and reviews contractor proposed OJT trainees and yearly contractor training plans ensuring program qualifications are met. Daily contact with contractors by answering questions regarding OJT rules, regulations, and procedures. Identify and address individual needs by conducting direct interviews with OJTs to provide them with specific sources of assistance. Collect and maintain accurate interview reports for departmental program use. Title VI data entry and file storage. Other duties as assigned.


Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Requirements

Education:

Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience:

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Qualifications

Alternate Education and Experience:

Departmental Technician 7 - Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.
