Full Job Description
At lexington Maintenance, performs maintenance and repairs to heavy equipment such as motor graders, bulldozers, athey loaders, barber, paving machines, excavator, low boy machines, backhoes, front end loaders and slope mowers. Performs diagnosis and repair of large and small gas and diesel engines used in heavy equipment. Performs emergency service calls on equipment to ensure it can be safely removed from the roadway or loaded for transport to the repair shop. Performs repairs to manual and hydrostatic drivelines and transmissions on heavy equipment. Perfoms small cutting and welding jobs on equipment. Assists in shop operations during hazardous weather and emergencies
Requirements
One and one-half (1.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
