Job Description

Summary

This job involves investigating complaints against nurses and nursing facilities to ensure they follow state rules, which includes gathering evidence, interviewing people, writing reports, and working with legal teams and officials.

It's a good fit for someone detail-oriented with a background in investigations or law enforcement who is comfortable traveling and communicating effectively.

Knowledge of nursing practices is a plus but not required.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma and experience in investigations or law enforcement (bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience)
  • Prior investigative or regulatory experience, preferably with knowledge of nursing
  • Knowledge of legal principles and practices
  • Ability to build relationships with officials and the public
  • Valid driver's license with clean 10-year motor vehicle record
  • Ability to drive state or personal vehicle and handle extended driving
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs, including visits to non-ADA compliant sites

Responsibilities

  • You will conduct routine, complex, and sensitive investigations of reported violations of state statutes and regulations governing licensees of state boards within agency established time guidelines, specifically, the Board of Nursing.
  • You will draft subpoenas for relevant documents and interviews witnesses, prepare written reports detailing findings of investigations, and maintain updated case files for all investigations.
  • You will work with various officials and agencies on the local, state, and federal level.
  • You will attend and present case findings to the Investigative Review Committee (IRC).
  • You will work closely with Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) to receive advice regarding legal issues or questions about sufficiency of evidence.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. (A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required work experience.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior investigative experience or experience conducting regulatory investigations and knowledge of nursing.
  • Considerable knowledge of acceptable legal principles and practices.
  • Ability to establish good relations with officials and the public.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
  • Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
  • May require extended periods of driving, sitting, and visiting facilities that are non-ADA complaint.
  • May need to bend, stoop, kneel and lift up to 50 lbs.
