Full Job Description
The person in this position will perform scheduled inspections and evaluations throughout the assigned area to monitor shop maintenance programs. Communicate specific recommendations for correcting deficiencies to Department management through the use of oral and written reports, diagrams, drawings, and schematics. Assist all personnel with vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting. Plan, develop, organize, and conduct statewide training programs to ensure that all new and existing personnel are trained in the most current vehicle and equipment maintenance procedures and techniques necessary to perform their job duties. Research, review and develop Department policies and procedures with regard to Federal, State and local regulations (i.e. DOT, NHTSA, EPA, OSHA, DHEC, etc.). Ensure proper interpretation and implementation of said policies through evaluation of assigned shop operations. Plan, research, and develop specifications for all vehicles, equipment, and services used by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDOE) in providing transportation services. Review and evaluate bids to ensure compliance with specifications. Establish, implement, and supervise Department warranty repair policies and procedures; communicate these to shop personnel, chassis, bus body, and equipment manufacturers to ensure that product reliability and performance is in accordance with anticipated service life. Perform other assigned duties as required.
This position is located in the Office of Transportation/Johnston Bus Shop.
Requirements
High school diploma and trades experience related to the area of employment.
Qualifications
Education, training, and experience related to vehicle maintenance. Must possess or acquire within 120 calendar days a valid Class B CDL with passenger and air brakes endorsements. Required to lift objects weighing 25 pounds and to move objects weighing 125 pounds 30 feet.
