Full Job Description

This position is located in Cumberland Island National Seashore, in the Facilities Maintenance Division. This job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 100 applicants.

Summary continued: Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures.

A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis.

As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions.

Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.

The typical season for Cumberland Island National Seashore is Mid-January through December, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid.

All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Duties: As a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator, you will perform the following duties: Installs, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates a variety of utility systems such as electrical work, water treatment operation, and engineering equipment operation.

Completes water treatment processes that require carbonation, ammoniation, fluoridation, and chlorination to change the taste, odor, or chemical content of the water.

Makes scheduled equipment checks to gauges, meters, electrical motors, pumps, chemical feeders, auxiliary generators, and recording and controlling devices.

Assists in the administration and compliance of utility related projects. Monitors annual contracts with utility related suppliers.

Purchases equipment, materials, and supplies for utility related work.

Operates heavy equipment (e.g., graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozerblades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments) to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth, coal, or refuse.
