Education and Experience: A High School diploma, GED or higher, and two (2) year utility customer service field experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state.

Requirements

Under general supervision, inspect new installations of water lines to ensure compliance with applicable codes; install pin locks for all new service and investigates customer complaints regarding water and sewer service and billings.

Qualifications

Inspect new installations of water lines. Involves: Inspect residential and commercial customer premises to determine water usage, leakage and means for conservation. Determine number and type of water consuming appliances and plumbing fixtures on premises. Turn off fixtures and check water meter to detect leakage. Ensure water meter and connections are not defective or damaged. Test meters for accuracy. Inspect sprinkler systems, cutoff valves and by-passes. Ensure there are no illegal connections to water system. Examine ground for water seepage. Recommend options for corrective action if leakage detected. Advise customer on methods to reduce water consumption. Explain departmental rules, policies and procedures. Prepare a work order update on all orders taken or completed by field worker and dispatcher. Prepare and print work orders for following work day.
Verify accuracy and collect payment of water billings. Involves: Verify water billings by re-reading meters and meters coded as unreadable. Collect non-payment and delinquent accounts. Collect monies, checks or money orders from customer. Turn off water service for non payment. Prepare sketches of new or remodeled strip malls on placement of water meters for correct billing. Review and edit all customer accounts. Dispatch meter reader for re-read of meter for accuracy. Adjust accounts based on new information. Lock zone once all edits are corrected. Notify customers of possible leaks. Prepare credit fund transfer to update customer billing and credit files. Prepare and run billing report for Assistant Manager. Perform duties of lead worker in assigning and prioritizing work.
