The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP) Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) seeks a 2026 Summer Engineering intern to support our Plant Engineering team. This role will focus on how to use AutoCAD as well as PDF formats and how they relate to each other.

Our internship is for active students only. To be eligible for this internship, you must be enrolled in a college, or university program for the duration of your internship. For example, if you are graduating from a college or university in June 2026 and are not enrolled for a fall 2026 academic program, you are not eligible for internship but rather highly encouraged to apply for our entry-level job openings.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys technical work, wants real experience in P&ID, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, drawings as well as many other disciplines, and is eager to be exposed to the process of transitioning from one drawing management system to another.

This role focuses on AutoCAD drawing clean-up, final plan details, the creation of wastewater related equipment to help produce clear, accurate, construction-ready drawings, and the field verification of drawings in a complex industrial system.

About the Role:

During 2026 WTD will be moving from Meridian Enterprise engineering document management system to the RedEye Platform.

This Intern position will work throughout the summer, to help ensure the record drawings are updated to our current drawings in the new system. Interns may perform a variety of tasks such as:

  • Generating or correcting drawings to match current drawings
  • Field verification of drawings
  • Working closely with Plant Engineering to ensure accuracy of drawings
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
This position will be located at the West Point Treatment facility. However, they may be reviewing drawings from various Wastewater Treatment Division facilities throughout King County.

This AutoCAD internship serves as a crucial link that helps support Operations & Maintenance (O&M), CAMPS, and capital projects, ensuring that the record drawings are updated to our current drawings.

O&M's needs are integrated into project planning and execution. By ensuring the drawings are updated and current in the new system the AutoCAD intern will contribute to more efficient and effective plant operations and project completion.

Requirements

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Perform AutoCAD clean-up and drawing organization

  • Create and update drawings based on markups, sketches, and direction from the Plant Engineering team

  • Revise drawings based on field verification

  • Support general design and documentation tasks as needed

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

  • Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199. (The treatment plant does not have public transit access. Candidates should have the means to get to the plant in a timely manner.)

  • Work Schedule: This position may begin as part-time during the current school session and will transition to full-time work during the summer break. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.

  • Union Representation: This position is not represented by a Union.
