Do you have the knowledge and experience needed to perform building and structure inspections?

The Department of Labor & Industry is looking for a UCC Building Inspector 1 to enforce compliance with the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and other applicable state laws and regulations.

This position allows you to utilize your construction background to inspect industrial, commercial, assembly, educational, health care, institutional, as well as other public and private buildings.

Requirements

As a UCC Inspector 1, you will be tasked with determining compliance with building, accessibility, fire safety, energy conservation, and other health and safety laws and regulations by inspecting construction and/or alteration of buildings and structures.

Work involves conducting audits, performing plan reviews, reporting violations, conducting follow-up inspections, and preparing detailed reports of your findings.

You will also have the opportunity to work closely with contractors, architects, engineers, building owners, and other code officials.

Additional responsibilities include representing the Department of Labor & Industry at hearings, facilitating training for trainees, and maintaining active certifications.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the UCC Building Inspector Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, or other public use buildings for compliance with building and safety codes; or
  • Three years of building construction work which included the performance of skilled trades duties in the electrical, structural, plumbing, or mechanical trades; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires a valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an Accessibility Inspector/Plan Examiner.
  • This position requires one of the following valid certifications issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, or Energy Inspector.


Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.


Other Requirements:

  • You must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to Montgomery, Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, or Delaware county within the first 6 months of employment.
