Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of maintenance workers to keep state highways, bridges, and roadside areas in good condition, especially in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, while also operating heavy vehicles for tasks like snow removal and repairs.

It's a hands-on role that requires supervising daily operations and handling complex equipment.

A good fit would be someone with several years of highway maintenance experience, strong leadership skills, and comfort driving large trucks in tough weather.

Full Job Description

The Mackinac Bridge on a sunny day with blue skies and trees in the forefront with the MDOT logo and the MDOT webpage address.

This position functions as a lead worker overseeing the work activities of other Transportation Maintenance Workers (TMWs) at a work site or facility.

This position performs maintenance of state trunk lines, structures, and right-of-way in the Superior Region while participating in the TMW work element program and performs senior level functions with complex responsibilities for the most complex equipment operations and highway maintenance activities.

Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., snowplow, dump truck) when performing maintenance operations.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Transportation Maintenance Worker 9 position.

Requirements

Education
Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Three years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker E8.
