Requirements

As a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee, you will assist the Ports Program Manager in managing grants and overseeing publicly funded port projects. Your role will include supporting the execution of port and private terminal initiatives financed by the Multimodal Transportation Program. Key responsibilities will involve analyzing transportation data related to port, rail, and intermodal freight, assessing their impact on economic development and transportation technology. You will also conduct data analysis and reporting for federally and state-funded rail and port projects, as well as perform research to prepare documents such as papers, speeches, and fact sheets for presentations by the Ports Manager or bureau director. Additionally, this position offers opportunities to engage in various meetings, seminars, and committees focused on port and rail issues. A strong understanding of performance metrics, policies, and program guidelines is crucial for effectively implementing recommendations and addressing inquiries from both the agency and external stakeholders.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
