Job Description
Summary
This job involves inspecting construction projects for the state's transportation department, performing surveys, collecting samples, and helping with reports and project closeouts to ensure quality and compliance.
It's hands-on work that includes maintaining equipment and training others, often outdoors in challenging conditions near traffic or rough terrain.
A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with technical experience in engineering support, comfortable with physical tasks and a team-oriented mindset.
Key Requirements
- High school diploma and two years of progressively responsible engineering technician experience, or approved equivalent
- Technician Certification per SCDOT policy (substitutes for six months of related experience)
- Ability to perform independent inspections and produce timely reports
- Proficiency in operating survey equipment and conducting construction verification surveys
- Capability to collect samples, certifications, and handle preconstruction layout activities
- Physical ability to bend, kneel, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs, walk extended periods on rough terrain, and work near traffic or environmental hazards
- Willingness to work outside normal schedules, including weekends, and assist with training other inspectors
Full Job Description
Performs independent inspection in all fi elds and produces the required reports relating to those inspections in a timely manner. Maintains inspection and testing equipment, as well as completes daily time sheets and monthly mileage reports. Assists Project Managers in the generation of monthly estimates in Site Manager, and closeout activities, such as final quantities and As-Built Drawings. Performs construction verification surveys and operates survey equipment during these surveys, responsible for preconstruction layout activities and data collection. Ensures the collection of and/or collects samples and certifications relating to construction inspection activities. Assists with training other inspectors in all areas of inspection and survey verification. Performs other related duties as assigned.Requirements
