Full Job Description
Supervise staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels, and trains employees. Establishes and monitors work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork within the organization. Supervise and/or perform all assigned inspections on major road and bridge projects to ensure that all structures are built per SCDOT plans and specifications. Coordinate relocation of utilities in conflict with construction. Train or assist in the training of subordinates. This training may include proper material sampling procedures, bridge inspection procedures and the proper method of completing required forms and reports. Compute and/or supervise subordinates in detailing and computation of project specifications. Assure that the computation for alignment grades, quantities, etc., are as for plans for the construction of major highways and bridges. Compiles information for documentation of projects as built, and the preparation of final construction plans. Maintain EEO, DBE Quarterly Reports, Project Wise, Wage Regulation Reports, and training documents of assigned projects. Acts as project manager for all projects assigned, also should be guided by SCDOT contract specifications and construction manual. Document the activities of the contractor's which could result in a claim situation. Coordinate the activities of the inspectors preparing daily work reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
