Full Job Description
At Richland Construction B, assists the Resident Construction Engineer (RCE) in the coordination of inspection activities on work conducted by contractors. Monitors construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications, and standards. Assists project engineers with project management duties. Prepares monthly estimates, final estimates and final plans on assigned projects to ensure contractor is accurately paid for all work performed under the contract. Assists with responding to inquiries from the public. Reviews encroachment permit applications for compliance with construction plans and standards. Performs project closeout duties. Performs project inspection duties as needed. Monitors QA/QC, traffic control, and erosion control on complex projects for conformance with approved plans, and to ensure the safety of employees and the motoring public. Carries out senior-level inspection work on all phases and processes of highway construction projects as needed. Performs surveying duties as needed. Trains lesser experienced employees in proper inspection and surveying techniques on assigned construction projects. Reviews sampling requirements and test results to ensure that adequate samples have been obtained to represent the materials used during construction. Obtain samples of materials to submit to the laboratory for testing.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
