The OpportunityWSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 in our Olympic Region!
This position supports WSDOT’s mission by ensuring highway construction projects are designed and constructed in compliance with standard specifications, contract specifications and contract plans.
The work of this position improves the safety, reliability, and resiliency of the State’s transportation system.
As a Transportation Engineer 2 in the Olympic Region Traffic Office, this position reviews documents and conducts analysis related to state facilities.
This position contributes to the agency’s strategic plan by ensuring, through adherence to WSDOT policies, that work functions performed are administered to the expected quality, safety, and stewardship standards to support Washington’s long-term resilience.

QualificationsThis is a Transportation Engineer 2 position.
However, the hiring manager reserves the right to fill the position at a lower level in the Classification series based on candidate qualifications, providing an opportunity for an individual to gain the required experience on the job as part of a formal “in-training” plan.
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Transportation Engineer 2 (TE2) level:
Engineering Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of engineering principles, methods, and practices relevant to transportation projects.
This includes experience in design development, construction techniques, material testing procedures, and/or contract administration; Experience preparing construction contract documents or working for a Design Builder in an engineering capacity.
Transportation Engineer 1 (TE1) level:
Engineering Fundamentals: Foundational knowledge of basic engineering and mathematical principles to solve routine engineering problems, typically gained through education, experience, training, or certification (EIT or LSIT).
Ability to apply this knowledge to design, construction, and inspection tasks.
In addition to one of the above, the following are also required (at both levels):
Analytical and Technical Review: Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex transportation and traffic analysis elements, identify issues, and develop effective alternative solutions.
Experience reviewing and applying traffic design and transportation engineering principles to support data-driven decision-making and project delivery.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Technical Traffic Analysis Competency: Experience preparing and/or reviewing traffic studies, including traffic impact analyses, transportation discipline reports for environmental documentation, and intersection control evaluations.
Demonstrated understanding of highway and traffic analysis principles, methodologies, and operational concepts.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.

Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
This is a Transportation Engineer 2 position.
