Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping military personnel, their families, and civilian employees with moving and storing their personal belongings when they relocate for work, including explaining rules, arranging shipments, and solving any issues that come up.

It's a support role in the U.S. Marine Corps focused on transportation logistics for household goods and vehicles.

A good fit would be someone with customer service experience, attention to detail, and knowledge of government regulations, especially if they've worked in logistics or military support.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Counseling personnel on entitlements and restrictions concerning the movement of personal property; 2) Interpreting personal property shipment, storage, and disbursement regulations to provide technical shipment operations assistance; 3) Arranging the movement of personal property by determining method of shipment, estimating weight, and obtaining data on special packaging requirements; and 4) Resolving issues related to shipment delivery status.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will provide entitlement counseling to military personnel, their dependents, and civilian employees of the military services, arranging the movement of their personal property within CONUS and overseas.
  • You will research, interpret, and articulate established procedures and processes identified within the Defense Transportation Regulation (DTR).
  • You will provide assistance with Government-sponsored Household Goods Transportation and Storage.
  • You will counsel DoD Military and Civilian employees on authorized entitlements as established within the Joint Travel Regulation.
  • You will review orders to determine if the applicant is entitled to shipment and/or storage of personal property at Government expense.
  • You will research US and foreign Government regulations whether privately owned vehicle (POV) qualifies for shipment at Government expense, and if foreign government restricts member to kinds and numbers of vehicles.
  • You will counsel on Do-It-Yourself (DITY) / Personally Procured Moves for packing and loading of shipments, and procedures for obtaining advance operating allowance from Disbursing Office.
