Job Description

Summary

This job involves coordinating the shipment of various materials, including hazardous and oversized cargo, using commercial and military transport options to ensure timely and compliant delivery.

The role requires arranging logistics, resolving shipment issues, and advising customers on transportation needs within the Navy's supply system in San Diego.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 in transportation logistics, including knowledge of commercial rules, regulations, and procedures for moving materials

  • Proficiency in using automated information systems to process, track, research, and resolve shipment discrepancies

#LI-NAVSUPFLCSD Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private of public sector applying knowledge of commercial rules, regulations, laws and procedures that govern the movement of material and use of commercial carriers or commercial service providers.

Examples of Specialized Experience may include: 1) Resolving a full range of problems related to the movements of a wide range of specialized shipments including hazardous cargo and general cargo; 2) Utilizing automated information systems to process, track, research, and resolve discrepancies with shipments; 3) Coordinating the movement of oversized/overweight shipments over state highways to obtain the necessary permits from state, local, and other regulatory bodies; 4) Determining the most appropriate method of shipment for transportation of a variety or equipment and materials; 5) Preparing, processing, and reconciling Commercial Bills of Lading (CBLs), manifests, rates, payments, and billing statements.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a Transportation Assistant in the Advanced Traceability and Control (ATAC) operation, within NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center San Diego (FLCSD).
  • You will make necessary arrangements for the movement of materials by all modes, using commercial carriers and military air.
  • You will consider all factors, including the required delivery date, dimensions, hazardous classification, urgency of the shipment, and the classification of general cargo for the mode of transportation best suited for the cargo being shipped.
  • You will identify the mode(s) of transportation, necessary special equipment and services required for shipments, securing carriers, and advising customers on transportation issues.
  • You will analyze material dimensions and weight to determine specific handling, packing, loading or type of carrier equipment required.
  • You will serve serves as a freight shipping technical consultant and advisor, providing technical advice and administration of customer shipments.
  • You will perform as technical advisor on transportation policy matters, providing liaison between military transportation, commercial carriers, customers, and tenant commands.
