Base salary range: $30,286 - $39,372

Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves helping veterans with travel reimbursements by checking eligibility, calculating distances and costs, preparing payment forms, and managing records in a busy office at a VA medical center in Waco, Texas.
It requires strong computer skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service to handle a high volume of claims from patients who may be stressed or ineligible.
A good fit would be someone organized, patient, and comfortable with administrative tasks, ideally with experience in customer-facing roles or basic office work.
This position is intended to perform transportation support work related to the specialty area of passengers i.e. beneficiary travel.
The position is to perform duties as a Transportation Assistant, the duties of which are to initiate and complete a wide variety of administrative and technical for the Beneficiary Travel Program within the CTVHCS.
The location of this position is at the Waco campus within the Beneficiary Travel Unit, Eligibility and Processing Section within Med Admin Service.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of Specialized experience includes but not limited to: preparing daily reports itemizing all control point activities for each day; determining travel eligibility; following strict security measures when accessing or exiting computer software; moving back and forth successfully between various computer software programs; and customer service.
Determine travel eligibility, computes mileage/common carriers, and prepares electronic voucher. Maintaining computer records for travel transactions.
OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience.
To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.
This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. If you are qualifying on education. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED).
OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level.
You must have an combination of specialized experience and education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable.

Major Duties:
Major duties assigned but not limited to: Obligates funds for travel fund control points. Prepares daily reports itemizing all control point activities for each day.
Contacts approval official to authorize obligations and any requests for additions, deductions, and/or movement of funds.
Determines travel eligibility, computes mileage/common carriers, and prepares electronic voucher. Looks up Veteran's home address in VistA and calculates the mileage to and from appropriate facility.
Moves back and forth successfully between various computer software programs to accomplish duties in a timely manner.
Uses extreme tact and respect in communicating with applicants who are not eligible to receive Beneficiary Travel.
Functions under the constant pressure of a large volume of claimants and a variety of personalities.
Shows proficiency in the use of VistA, Beneficiary Travel Self-Service Support (BTSSS) system, and the Beneficiary Travel Dashboard.
Tracks deductible amounts when applicable and in accordance with established guidelines. Certifies all beneficiary travel vouchers via computer input. Provides on-the-job training to new employees.
Receives Veterans making claims for reimbursement at the time of their discharge from the medical center, domiciliary, nursing home care unit, or after an outpatient visit.
Follows strict security measures when accessing or exiting VistA and BTSSS. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am -4:00pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
