King County Metro’s Vehicle Maintenance team is hiring multiple Special Duty Assignment (SDA) /Term-Limited Temporary(TLT) Transit Utility Service Workers who will be responsible for cleaning the interiors of buses and other vehicles and related tasks to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for our riders.
Vehicle Maintenance invests in its staff development and SDA/TLT positions give candidates a chance to gain knowledge, skills, and experiences that can be applied to future opportunities.

Utility Service Workers in the Vehicle Maintenance section may be assigned to one of seven maintenance bases throughout King County and work one of three shifts (Day, Swing and Graveyard).
New hires are frequently assigned to the swing and night shifts.
Swing and graveyard shift employees receive a shift pay differential (Shift pay is 5% for second shift and 7.5% third shift, on top of base hourly pay).
Employees work a 40 hour per week schedule and are eligible for overtime pay. Schedules may have mid-week regular days off (Monday-Tuesday, Tuesday-Wednesday, etc.).
Employees must be able and willing to work any shift, any location.
Recruitment Information: This recruitment will be used to fill multiple Special Duty Assignment (SDA)/ Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) positions and will have a duration of at least 18 months (with the possibility for extension).
These initial vacancies are temporary in duration but are full-time, benefit eligible, and may have the opportunity to convert to career service (permanent) positions when possible.
An eligibility list of qualified candidates may be created to fill future Utility Service Worker positions as they become available.
If the eligibility list is created, it will remain active for up to 12 months from the posting date and may be used at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Vacancy Information
This recruitment will be used to fill the immediate need for multiple term-limited temporary (TLT) and special duty (SDA)vacancies. These positions will be full time and have full benefits.
Applications received may also be used to create an eligibility list for future SDA/TLT vacancies in the same classification that might occur over the following 12 months, at the discretion of the hiring authority.
SDA/TLT employees will be converted to career service in the order that they are hired, once a career service position has been approved.
Work Schedule:
Employees in this non-exempt classification work a 40 hour per week schedule with two consecutive days off, but not necessarily Saturday and Sunday.
Work schedules and locations are based on a seniority system and schedules are bid on twice a year.
Employees must be able and willing to work any shift, including any combination of days off, at any location. Third(graveyard) or second (swing) shift vacancies will be the most likely openings.
These positions are FLSA non-exempt and therefore eligible for overtime pay.
Work Location
This position may work at any of Metro's transit bases around King County, including bases in Downtown Seattle, Shoreline, Bellevue, and Tukwila.
Union Status
Positions in this classification are represented by Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 587.
