Base pay for this position is $34.41


The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe.


This position has an anticipated work schedule of regularly working up to 25 hours per week, subject to change.


Provides development and instruction of training for Sherif's Office personnel. Assists with the maintenance of training records and scheduling of training.

Requirements

  • Designs and teaches classes for the Sworn Basic Recruit Academy in accordance with Colorado POST.
  • Participates in the development and instruction of training for the Sheriff’s Office Training Academy, including scheduling classes and instructors, updating course curriculum, preparing and presenting instructional materials, supervising students, and providing instruction to both sworn and professional staff during academy and in-service training.
  • Participates in the physical conditioning of recruits to include running, workout regiments, and arrest control training. 
  • Serve as team lead for a group of assigned recruits.
  • At the direction of the Academy Director, assists with arrest control training, firearms training, and driving instruction as needed.
  • Assists with daily in-service training activities with cadre instructors as needed.
  • May assist with creating documentation related to Sworn Basic Recruit Academy training and in-service training. Produce training reports as required. 
  • Participates as part of the Colorado POST Subject Matter Expert committees as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess a high degree of personal integrity.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, have excellent organizational skills, be responsible, make decisions under stress, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with regard to proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Must be comfortable speaking to large and small groups.
  • Ability to maintain the security of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with Sheriff's Office personnel and leadership, County staff, external agencies, and the public while collaborating as a productive member of a team.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position by maintaining physical condition and fitness; ability to exert 175 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently to carry, push, pull, or move objects; ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, feel, finger, talk, smell, hear.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer, telephone, fax machine, and copier
  • Must be flexible with work requirements and schedule.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Two years of law enforcement/detentions experience.
  • Experience as an instructor with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Licenses/Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Firearms, Arrest Control, or Driving Instructor Certification preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Additional Information

Duties may be performed in a classroom setting or in an outdoor environment with exposure to inclement weather. This is a part-time position regularly working up to 25 hours per week.
