Job Description

Summary

This job involves creating and leading training programs to help adults with basic educational needs build skills and grow professionally, often working directly with the public in a library setting.

A good fit would be someone passionate about adult education who enjoys planning lessons, coordinating with community partners, and supporting new staff.

The role requires flexibility with evening and weekend hours at various San Antonio library locations.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Psychology, Education, or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience as a teacher or training instructor
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License
  • Knowledge of instructional and teaching methods for adults with basic educational needs
  • Ability to develop lesson plans, training materials, and programs
  • Experience conducting research, coordinating with educational institutions, and maintaining training records
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)

Full Job Description

Under direction, is responsible for performing professional level work planning, developing and conducting training programs for skill and professional development for the adults with basic educational needs. Will work directly with the public. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise supervision over assigned staff.

Work Location
Las Palmas Branch - 515 Castroville Road, San Antonio, TX (78237) or one of seven (7) Learn at SAPL locations.

Work Hour

Monday - Friday to include two (2) evenings, or Tuesday - Saturday to include one evening and one weekend. Schedules may vary and is determined based on business needs.


Requirements

  • Develops educational and skill development training programs.
  • Conducts and coordinates training classes.
  • Develops teaching materials and prepares detailed lesson plans.
  • Develops and writes training manuals, handout materials, visual aids, and program outlines.
  • Assists line supervisors with orientation of new employees.
  • Conducts research on various topics for future program development.
  • Reviews on a regular basis training films and other audio visual aids for use in training programs.
  • Plans in-house training with cooperation of other staff members.
  • Develops and maintains training records and participant files.
  • Coordinates training and educational programs with local colleges, universities, and private institutions.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a teacher or training instructor.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods for adults with basic educational needs.
  • Knowledge of individual and community needs assessments.
  • Ability to use and teach digital technologies.
  • Ability to tailor training to individual strengths and development plans.

Applicant Information

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
