Full Job Description

Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) is seeking a Title I Career Planner to join our team at the IowaWORKS office in Denison, Iowa.

Position Details

  • Location: 504 Hwy 39 North, Denison IA
  • Schedule: Full-time | Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Work Flexibility: Hybrid telework and alternate schedules available after six months of employment

Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) is a state agency committed to providing employment services for individual job seekers and to connecting employers to available workers through our IowaWORKS partnership.


Core Responsibilities

The Title I Career Planner will ensure excellent customer service and professionalism while working with customers that enter the IowaWORKS Center.

Interact and collaborate effectively and build respectful relationships among coworkers, partners and with team members within the American Job Center for a better experience for IowaWorks customers.


In this position you will coach, motivate, and encourage job seekers in all aspects of the job search and assist customers to build their personal and job skills for the goal of successful employment.

Assist customers with preparing and tailoring resumes and cover letters and facilitate mock interviews to identify ways to improve their interview skills.

Process documents for partners and team programs and services and refer and direct customers to appropriate workshops and employment events.

Coordinate and facilitate workshops, one-on-one or in-person appointments, or virtual conferencing for customers and participants to give updates on workshops and presentations, system programs and services as new information is available.

Document all services, appointments, and other important information in the IowaWorks database.


Title I Career Planners help customers by answering questions about employment and training opportunities and perform “job matching” by referring career opportunities to candidates in the IowaWorks system.

Provide Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Core partner and refer to community agencies and inform customers of current labor market information.


The successful candidate provides direct services to businesses for recruitment of employees by providing information and guidance to employers on how to use the IowaWorks system and inform them of opportunities to participate in Work Based Leaming activities.

You will participate in development and implementation of customized recruitment strategies and events and provide follow-up and services to job seekers and businesses.

Utilize the case management system for tracking and maintaining employer information. Critique and enter job orders and referrals into the Iowa WORKS system.

Network with businesses to determine hiring practices and employer needs.


To be a successful Title I Career Planner will provide individualized career and training services to eligible adults, dislocated workers, and youth in accordance with federal, state, and local policies and procedures.

Determine career interest by administering appropriate assessments and ensure all participants are aware of Work Based Learning and training opportunities in the local area to achieve their individual employment goals.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of full-time public contact work obtaining, analyzing and evaluating data such as job/claims interviewing, testing, referral and/or placement, sales representative, credit investigation, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of supportive clerical and outreach functions for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to twelve months of full-time work as a Workforce Associate.
