This job involves driving a service truck to change and repair tires on city vehicles and heavy equipment, both in the garage and on the road, while also handling tasks like picking up police property and assisting in the tire shop.
It's a hands-on role supporting the city's fleet operations in Indianapolis.
A good fit would be someone with strong mechanical skills, experience in tire work, and a reliable, safety-focused attitude who doesn't mind overtime or physical labor.
-Changes tires and/or repairs tires of large construction equipment as well as trucks and cars in garage road service.
-Operates truck attachments such as tire changing equipment, repair equipment and wheel balance machine.
-Repairs all types of tires to include bud wheels, split rims, tubeless, etc.
-Road work orders, maintenance forms, and technical manuals in order to apply appropriate techniques or methods to perform assigned tasks.
-Operate service truck mounted tire changing equipment and repair equipment.
-Employ precision measuring devices powered and non-powered shop tools.
-Conducts operational checks on truck equipment prior to operations.
-May attend training schools, classes, and seminars.
-Assist other workers when not on road service call in the tire garage.
-Examine tires for excessive tire wear.
-Is responsible for picking up police property and delivering that property to IMPD.
-Operates radio in accordance with FCC rules and dispatcher instructions.
-Takes responsibility for conduct of passengers.
-Must have hand tools relevant to the assigned types of repairs upon reporting for work.
-Observes all job-site safety regulations.
-May be required to work overtime.
-Will be held responsible for tools/equipment supplied by the City.
-Depth perception required.
-Perform related duties as assigned.
-Must successfully pass a re-employment physical.
-These are the minimum requirements.
-Five years work-related experience related to tire repair. Knowledge of tires, tubes and rims, tire repair and changing equipment.
-Knowledge of the vehicular and equipment nomenclature.
-Knowledge of repair procedures and techniques applicable to equipment owned by the City of Indianapolis or Marion County.
-Knowledge of tires, tubes, rims, and experience with tire repair and changing equipment safely and efficiently.
-Able to repair all types of tires to include bud wheels, split rim, tubeless, etc.
