County of Santa Barbara Health is looking for a skilled and compassionate individual with a desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children with special healthcare needs!

We are accepting applications to fill one (1) Bilingual English/ Spanish Therapy Attendant position for a Part-Time (0.75 FTE) vacancy on the California Children’s Services (CCS) team in Lompoc.

NOTE: The schedule for these in-person positions is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

We are also accepting applications to establish an employment list for future Full-Time, Part-time, Extra Help and 1414* vacancies for Therapy Attendant in Lompoc, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria.

*Civil Service Rule 1414. Appointment to Fill Vacancy During Leave of Absence.

1414 vacancies may occur as a result of a leave of absence, and the duration of the appointment shall be subject to the return of the individual who is on leave.

A person who is appointed to a position under Civil Service Rule 1414 may be able to transition into a regular position in the classification without re-application or re-testing, depending on the performance of the appointee and the needs of the department.

THE POSITION:
Under close supervision, the Therapy Attendant assists professional staff in providing physical and occupational therapy to infants and children with physical disabilities; performs related work as required.

THE PROGRAM:California Children's Services (CCS): The CCS program provides diagnostic and treatment services, medical case management, and physical and occupational therapy services to children under age 21 with CCS-eligible medical conditions.

CCS is administered as a partnership between county health departments and the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).

Requirements

  1. Provides or assists treatment of patients under the direct supervision of a physical or occupational therapist.
  2. Prepares clients for treatment by assisting with undressing and dressing of patients; weighing and measuring patients; assists with positioning them for treatment.
  3. Assists therapists in explaining various treatment activities to patients, parents, and teachers.
  4. Cleans treatment areas; maintains laundry, inventory of patient's supplies, and sanitation of therapy supplies and equipment.
  5. Answer phones; schedules patient appointments; filing; maintains appropriate records and documentation of patient's treatment.
  6. Transports patients from classrooms to on-site treatment centers.
  7. Track durable medical equipment and orthotics orders from prescription through delivery, maintain follow-up log and schedule DME clinic.
  8. Assist with clinic preparation, operation and follow-up.

    Responsibilities include: clinic schedules, appointment verification (for Spanish speaking families), room set-up, clinic reception, help in preparation of patient for exam, interpretation for patients, social worker and physicians, height and weight measurements for pediatric clinic

    Qualifications

    1. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent AND some experience working with children or individuals with physical disabilities; OR,
    2. A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.


    Additional Qualifications:

    • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required and to travel independently.
    • The ability to read, write, and converse (translate) fluently in English and Spanish is preferred for this position.Note: If you indicated on your application that you are bilingual, Human Resources will place you on the employment list for a job requiring bilingual skills.

      Hiring departments may test you on your fluency.

      If you do not demonstrate sufficient fluency, your name may be withheld from future certifications or removed from the employment list, in accordance with Civil Service Rule 7.

    • Selectees for employment in this class must, as a condition of employment, sign a statement agreeing to comply with Section 11166 of the California Penal Code relating to child abuse reporting and Section 15630 of the Welfare and Institutions Code relating to dependent adult abuse reporting.
    • Selectees for positions in this class assigned to Child Welfare Services are subject to being fingerprinted for the purpose of criminal record clearance, as authorized under Section 11105.3 of the California Penal Code and Section 16501 of the Welfare and Institutions Code.

    Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely; lift, carry and pull patients with short and long term disabilities; follow written and oral instructions from multiple staff; keep records; maintain confidentiality; and learn treatments and procedures in physical and occupational therapy.

    APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS

    1. Review applications and supplemental questionnaire to determine those applicants who meet the employment standards.
    2. Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking. Responses to the required examination supplemental questions will be evaluated and scored.

      Candidates’ final score and rank on the eligibility list will be determined by the responses to these questions. This process may be eliminated if there are fewer than 11 qualified candidates.


      Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the supplemental questionnaire ranking to be placed on an employment list.

      An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI.

      Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months.

      At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive an email notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.
