Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping process people who want to join the U.S.

military by running tests, explaining how to take them, and entering the results into computer systems at a military entrance station in Fort Dix, New Jersey.

It's a steady government role supporting the Army and other branches to ensure recruits meet basic standards.

A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with experience in testing or data entry, who enjoys working in a structured environment and has some education or background in administrative tasks.

Key Requirements

About the Position: he Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, & Coast Guard; meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD & the military services.

Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining & processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces. This is a permanent position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting aptitude and/or qualification exams; briefing applicants on testing materials and equipment; and compiling test results and/or entering data into centralized reporting systems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

(You must include a copy of your transcripts in your application package).

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. (You must include a copy of your transcripts in your application package).

Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.

If you are a current, Federal employee, you must include your pay plan, series and grade in your work experience(s) on your resume submission and/or upload supporting documentation (within-grade increase SF50) to show that you meet the time-in-grade requirement.

Major Duties:

  • Administer computer based and/or written tests to applicants.
  • Perform quality control of examination/applicant information to ensure validity.
  • Ensure test conditions in a test room are conducive to the best possible test performance for the applicants.
  • Monitor applicants during testing to prevent cheating/loss of test material.
  • Maintain security of assigned set of student booklets/tests to ensure no loss of materials
  • Assist in conducting test material inventories to ensure strict accountability and security of testing materials.
  • Follow strict mailing/shipping procedures to ensure accountability of controlled test materials.
  • Sign log sheets ensuring all security containers/ (i.e. vaults, file cabinets, etc.) are properly secured each day.
  • Answer applicant questions regarding testing procedures.
  • Contact appropriate personnel (i.e. recruiters, school representatives, other MEPS, liaisons) to coordinate test locations.
  • Brief large groups of applicants on testing procedures ensuring understand procedures.
  • Coordinate with appropriate offices to maintain/retrieve applicant records.
