Job Description

Summary

This job involves coordinating and administering tests for people applying to join the military, making sure everything follows the rules and results are entered accurately into computer systems.

It's based in a military processing office in Syracuse, New York, and is a full-time government role.

About the Position: Serves as a Testing Coordinator in a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) to ensure applicants' test scores are valid and processed in a timely manner in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S.

Military Entrance Processing Command policies and procedures for the DoD Military Personnel Testing Program. This will be a permanent position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Conducting student testing in compliance with established regulations; Briefing applicants on examination procedures; Utilizing automated systems to enter and retrieve data; Performing quality control checks of testing materials.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

Major Duties:

  • Conduct aptitude and qualification examinations on applicants.
  • Contact school officials to coordinate school testing sessions.
  • Assign personnel to proctor examinations.
  • Perform quality control of examination and applicable applicant information.
  • Score examinations and send results to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform data entry of results and enter information into the system.
  • These duties are described at the full performance level of GS-07. The duties at the GS-05 and GS-06 level are developmental leading to such performance.
  • This vacancy will be filled at the GS-05, with promotion potential to the GS-06 and at the full performance level, GS-07 without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management.
