Under supervision from the Source Evaluation Section Manager, the Stack Test Specialist II will perform technical and professional duties related to implementing the state source evaluation program

Job Responsibilities:

Review source specific test plans and monitoring plans to determine if they meet the standards established by State and Federal regulations and associated guidance documents.

If appropriate, approve said test plans or coordinate activities with the regulated entity to obtain information necessary to make the plan approvable.

  • Observe Department approved source tests and performance specification tests to ensure that tests are conducted in accordance with the approved test plan.
  • Review source test reports and continuous monitor certifications for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to the Department approved test plan.
  • Prepare source test summaries once results are accepted indicating, if appropriate, the compliance status of the facility as a result of the test.
  • Ensure that all documents are properly prepared and that all phases of assigned projects are entered into data programs in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as required.



  • Requirements

    • A bachelor’s degree in a related technical field.
    • An associate degree in a related technical field and one (1) year of environmental health or related experience.
    • OR a high school diploma and three (3) years of environmental health or related experience. Certification in the environmental field qualifies as related experience.
    Note: Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc.

    Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

    Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to use computers and data management software.
    • Knowledge of agency word processing software.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with the public and coworkers.
    • Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
    • Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions.
    • Ability to read, comprehend, and correctly interpret complex technical documents and regulations.
    • Ability to prepare clear, concise and comprehensive oral and written reports.
    • Must have a valid SC driver's license.
    • May require:
      • Daily travel throughout the state.
      • Occasional overnight travel and/or weekend work.
      • Extended workday schedules may be required.

    Qualifications

    In-depth knowledge and work experience with EPA Stationary source air quality testing methodologies, procedures, and guidelines.

    Experience with and demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and effectively apply State and Federal regulations.

    Experience and demonstrated ability to effectively manage source testing projects to completion. Experience observing and documenting air emissions testing of complex industrial processes.

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and correctly interpret complex technical documents and regulations; ability to prepare clear, concise and comprehensive oral and written reports.
  • A master’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field or a bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and four years of environmental health or related experience.

    A degree in Chemistry or 16 hours of college level chemistry course work.
