THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (6-9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $16.55 PER HOURMueller State Park has over 5,000 acres of spring-fed meadows, forested ridges and massive rocks of Pikes Peak Granite with several ponds that dot the landscape.

PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN/CABIN HOUSE KEEPER: Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including: restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc.
Responsible for maintenance and cleaning cabins. Operates and perform routine maintenance on State owned vehicles and equipment.
Assures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness. Provides information and assistance to visitors.
May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies.

VISITOR SERVICES TECHNICIAN: A customer service based position that involves working in a visitor center or gate entrance, greeting visitors, or may be assigned to work in the field in specialized duties as some parks.
Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.
Staff the park entrance station and/or the visitor center.
Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on State Park regulations, etc.)
Provide information to the boating and non-boating public.
Sell parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other novelties.
May sell gift certificates, search and rescue cards, boat registrations, OHV registrations and snowmobile registrations, fishing and hunting licenses.
Operate a cash register.
Answering of telephones and transferring/taking messages.
Photo-copying and filing.
Collects revenue, completes shift report and balances shift box at end of each shift.
May prepare campground reservations forms and documents.
May document and report visitor complaints.
Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of gates, visitor center and/or offices, including litter pick up.
May assist with special events or programs within the park.
Other duties as assigned
TRAIL CREW MEMBER: This is a position designed to maintain and improve existing trail systems on the State Park (hundreds of miles of heavily used trails throughout the park).
This position is tasked with motorized trail as well as non-motorized trail maintenance. Crew members may work alone or in a group and will be provided assistance with duties, if necessary.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
This position often works in the backcountry.
Hand tools, chain saws, Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV's), skid steer/tractor, etc. will be used to complete tasks.
May be called on to assist other positions such as maintenance, rangers or visitor services at times.
This is a manual labor position that requires Crew Member to be outdoors and exposed to the elements on a daily basis.
Must have or be able to attain First Aid and CPR certifications.
Must be able to perform physical work in adverse conditions.
Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
Previous trail supervision experience preferred.
PARK OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP (Internship available): Perform duties related to overall management of the State Park including maintenance, customer service, trails maintenance and construction, resource management, campground operations, law enforcement and winter recreation.
Position will assist with all areas of daily park operations.
NOTE: This position is up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration.
Be 21 years of age.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Be able to pass a background check.
Possess or be able to acquire First Aid and CPR certifications.
Be able to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Perform physically strenuous outdoor activities in all weather conditions.
Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.
Must be willing and able to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
Must be able to lift [50-100] pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday.
Must have a current & valid driver’s license required for operating a state vehicle.
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education or recent graduate.
INTERPRETIVE ASSISTANT: This is a customer service based position that involves facilitating park interpretive and environmental education programs. Develop and present natural resources/historical related programs to park visitors. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Schedule, plan and present Junior Ranger programs, school and group programs, campfire programs and guided hikes, outreach programs
Provide roving interpretation in campgrounds and day use areas
Work with individual and group volunteers, State, Federal and local agency naturalists
May train volunteer naturalists
Market and promote attendance at programs
May develop brochures and other written materials
May work the visitor center front desk
May assist with special events or programs within the park
Collect, catalog, organize and protect park collections of slides, photographs, specimens, etc.
Attend assigned training sessions
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Applicants must have one year previous experience in interpretive and environmental education programming including developing and leading guided hikes, campfire programs, interpretive writing, working with volunteers, etc.
Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications during employment.
Must be self-motivated, be an accomplished public speaker and have good writing skills.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds during the course of a workday.
These positions are up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration. School schedules may be accommodated.
Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.
To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who:
Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
