This temporary job involves working as a veterinarian to ensure the health and safety of racehorses at a Colorado racing facility, including pre-race checks, collecting samples for drug testing, and providing emergency care.
It also requires collaborating with state agencies and organizations to develop rules on medication and animal welfare, and helping control horse diseases.
A good fit would be a licensed veterinarian with experience in equine medicine who enjoys regulatory work and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

This Temporary position is located in the Division of Racing, at the Division’s Bally's Arapahoe Park and off-track facility located at 26000 E. Quincy Ave.
Aurora, CO 80016 and is responsible for assuring the safety of racing animals, to implement the Division’s laboratory testing program and to assist in developing rules, regulations and guidelines pertaining to medication usage and animal welfare.
This position must be a licensed veterinarian in good standing with the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine. This position is a key player in the chain of custody for test samples.
This position will work in cooperation with (HISA) Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority and (HIWU) Horseracing Integrity Welfare Unit as is subject to the HISA established rules.
This position will collaborate with the chief veterinarian of the Colorado Department of Agriculture and other regulatory agencies to take measures to control communicable or reportable equine diseases.
This position will work in conjunction with Colorado State University on the Colorado Racehorse Postmortem Evaluation Project.
This position will provide continued support services for the enforcement and regulatory sections within Racing. The position will report to the Deputy Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:Current valid veterinarian license in the State of Colorado or state you currently reside in and or able to apply and obtain a valid veterinarian license in the State of Colorado within 30 days if an offer is given and you are out of state.

Special Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
Determine the necessary course of action based on the appropriate situation with State of Colorado rules and regulations or policy.
Additional one year of clinical experience (private or academic) in equine exclusive or equine predominant practice with an emphasis on lameness, sports medicine, and/or regulatory medicine.
Require veterinary knowledge and expertise along with knowledge of racing requirements and risk.
Conditions of Employment with the CDOR:
Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence.
As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy.
Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations.
Pursuant to the Universal Driving Standards Policy, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.
To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who:
Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
