Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team as a site lead for testing and evaluating undersea warfare systems, like those used in naval operations, including troubleshooting issues, recommending improvements, and managing projects to ensure systems are reliable and effective.

It's a hands-on technical role in a government setting focused on defense technology.

A good fit would be someone with engineering experience in electronics or mechanics, strong problem-solving skills, and leadership abilities in a team environment.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to NT-04 (GS-11/12) in electro-mechanical theory and engineering principles for undersea systems

  • Skills in project management, including budget, schedule, and performance oversight for operational test teams

  • Proficiency in technical judgment for recommendations on system availability, reliability, maintainability, and performance
  • Knowledge of electronics technical standards from OPM qualifications for series 0856

Full Job Description

You will serve as a TECHNICIAN in the Fleet Warfighting Readiness/Operations Division of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV KEYPORT WA, as a Site Lead.

Salary Range: San Diego: $121,585 - 186,785 Port Angeles, WA: $119,630 - $183,782 The salary range shown above represents all of the positions within the band, including high grade positions.

This is not a high grade position; therefore, the salary may be limited to a GS-13 Step 10 (currently $158,062 for San Diego, CA & $155,521 for Port Angeles, WA).

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, NT-04 (GS 11/12 equivalency), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying electro-mechanical theory and engineering principles to conduct test and evaluation assessments for the development of undersea systems.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will provide technical assessments and evaluations of undersea warfare systems, modifications and research to meet existing assessments and evaluations requirements, and/or new initiatives/capabilities.
  • You will conduct system test and evaluation assessments, failure modes analysis of systems and constituent components.
  • You will conduct basic through advanced troubleshooting, test, analyze, and re-test methods, preventative and corrective maintenance recommendations, and development and revisions to processes and procedures.
  • You will use proactive and sound technical judgement making recommendations to TPM/CA/ISEA/TDA, other government agencies and contractors on opportunities to improve system operational availability, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
  • You will manage project budget, schedule, and performance of the operational test team.
  • You will interface with the chain of command, Warfare Center representatives, and CNIC personnel in order to properly maintain facility material condition.
  • You will guide a team of support personnel in a technical environment, ensuring effective completion of assignments supporting technical assessments and evaluations.
  • You will monitor progress, adjusting based on priorities and seeking supervisory assistance for issues impacting technical projects.
  • You will estimate and report on task completion, maintain accurate records of technical data, and prepare necessary reports.
  • You will instruct employees in relevant procedures, provision of materials, and on-the-job training related to data entry and quality control.
  • You will maintain current knowledge of technical standards and procedures.
  • You will check work for compliance and accuracy, correcting errors and referring complex technical issues.
  • You will monitor workspace conditions for safety and ergonomics and inform employees of available resources.
  • You will address administrative concerns and refer complex technical issues to experts.
  • You will report on performance, training needs, and adherence to quality control.
  • You will provide information to the supervisor regarding personnel matters impacting the team's ability to support technical operations.
  • You will apply sound technical judgement making recommendations to supervisor on opportunities to improve system operational availability, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
