The City of San Antonio's Pre-K 4 SA Department is looking to fill multiple positions. Applications from this posting may be used to fill current and future vacancies.This advertisement will be used to fill one of the following positions:
- Teacher's Aide (Full-Time): Salary is $18.00 Hourly.
- Assistant Teacher: Salary is $19.85 Hourly.
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for assisting a classroom teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of four- year old students enrolled in the City's Pre-K 4 SA program at the Education Centers, to include outdoor learning environments. Assists the teacher with classroom preparation and the daily growth and development of students. Ensures the safety of students enrolled in the City's Pre-K 4 SA program at the Education Centers. Exercises no supervision.
This position is funded by sales tax that has been approved by the citizens of San Antonio for a limited time period. This position, therefore, is subject to at-will employment status, and is unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission.

Requirements
- Assists with preparing needed materials and supplies.
- Assists in maintaining a clean and organized learning environment.
- Actively interacts with children, engaging in powerful interactions, participating as partners in play, supporting and extending learning.
- Assists the teacher in maintaining discipline, supervision of students, and uses guidance strategies appropriate for young children.
- Plans, develops, and maintains safe, engaging outdoor learning environments.
- Monitors and assists in maintaining order at transportation sites, in the classroom, motor skills room, playground, cafeteria, hallways, and other areas.
- Maintains open communication with parents. Builds relationships with students to create a positive, safe, and welcoming school culture.
- Observes students' progress and communicates with the classroom teacher.
- Assists with loading and unloading students on the bus into the custody of authorized individuals and works with the assigned bus driver to ensure student safety and discipline, and supervises students.
- Assists with fastening the appropriate child safety restraint system.
- Supervises students as they cross the street with an authorized individual or accompanies the students as they cross the street without an authorized individual.
- Monitors and maintains student discipline and reports violations to appropriate personnel.
- Walks and checks the inside of the bus, both in and under each seat, at the end of each bus route.
- Documents and reports all incidents, illnesses, or injuries that occur during the bus ride to the driver and the appropriate supervisor.
- Operates equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Physical RequirementsPhysical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 35 pounds, visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination, and manualdexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic officeequipment.
Subject to sitting on the floor, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, and engaging in movement activities to perform the essentialfunctions. Working conditions are in a classroom environment.
Specialeducation teachers may be required to lift and position students withphysical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; andassist non-ambulatory students.
Qualifications
Job Requirements for Teacher's Aide:- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment; OR Twelve (12) hours of college credit in Education or Childhood Development from an accredited college or university.
Job Requirements for Assistant Teacher:- Forty-eight (48) hours of college credit from an accredited college or university.
- Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. OR Twelve (12) of the forty-eight (48) hours of college credit in Education or Childhood Development from an accredited college or university.

Applicant InformationUnless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.
One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.
One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
