This job is for a substitute teacher working with young children aged 0-5 in Head Start or state-funded childcare centers, where you'll plan activities to support their social, emotional, and learning growth while supervising staff and engaging with parents.

Plans and supervises Head Start and Child Development classroom activitiesAssesses children's needs and developmentHolds parent conferences about children's development twice a yearModels appropriate behavior for the children and classroom staffLeads the classroom team in planning and implementing the developmental programAssists in training instructional staff with the goal of building a team approach to meeting the children's needsWorks with parents in building a relationship of mutual respect and cooperationReports issues of concern to the Center AdministratorMakes verbal and written reports of suspected child abuse to Children's Protective Services and of unusual incidents to Community Care LicensingMaintains commitment to training and continuing professional developmentComplies with standards of conduct as required by Federal, State and County regulationsPerforms other tasks as may be required for the efficient operation Qualifications License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D.
equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate and possess of one of the following: 1. An Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education; or 2.
An Associate Degree in related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education, with experience teaching preschool-age children; or 3.
Baccalaureate Degree in Early Childhood Education; or 4.
Baccalaureate Degree in any subject and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with experience teaching preschool-age children.Permit: Possession of a Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing or possession of a Contra Costa County Temporary Teacher Certificate at all times is a condition of employment.Other Requirements: As required by law, all appointees to this class must successfully pass a physical examination and fingerprint and tuberculosis clearances.

If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances.
Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County.
If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKERAll Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law.
Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
